Copyrighted by Navistar in 2010, the section first describes each part of the system: the clutch pedal, master cylinder, reservoir, air-assisted clutch servo, hydraulic hose and bleeder valve. It explains that the servo push rod acts on the release fork so the clutch can still be disengaged with higher pedal effort if air pressure is lost, and that hoses are compatible with DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid. Remove-and-install procedures cover the reservoir, master cylinder, clutch servo and pedal with figure callouts. Two bleeding methods are given, a recommended reverse-vacuum procedure using shop air between 70 and 150 psi and an optional reverse-pressure procedure. A troubleshooting table then links slippage, drag and pedal-effort complaints to causes and corrective actions, and the closing chart lists fluid capacity and every torque value.
Applicable truck models
The system uses DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid, with a reservoir capacity of about 0.49 liters (16.6 ounces).
