Circuit description and component location
The fan clutch solenoid is a device the ECM uses to control the engine fan by sending a signal to open or close the solenoid. This code covers a fault in that supply circuit. An OEM diagram is used for the location of the fan clutch solenoid.
The ECM supplies no voltage to turn the fan on and battery voltage, 12 VDC in North America or 24 VDC in industrial, UK and European applications, to turn it off; a single wire can run from the relay or solenoid back to pin 7 or pin 17 of the actuator connector. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
