Circuit description and component location
The engine position sensor monitors engine position and engine speed and passes the information to the ECM through the sensor harness. This red-lamp code logs an engine overspeed event. On the M11 the engine position sensor is above the accessory drive; on the N14 it is at the back of the gear housing flange on the cylinder block, just above the lubrication pump.
The troubleshooting checks whether the engine overspeeded more than 400 rpm past governed speed or was motoring downhill, reviews snapshot data, and directs an inspection for base-engine damage due to overspeed. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
