Circuit description and component location
The intake manifold temperature sensor lets the ECM monitor engine intake air temperature for the engine protection system and for timing and fueling control. This seven-page tree covers the sensor circuit. On the M11 the intake manifold temperature sensor is on the top rear half of the intake manifold; on the N14 it is on the side of the manifold above the ECM.
Sensor resistance changes with temperature, from about 30k to 36k ohms at 0 C down to 600 to 675 ohms at 100 C, and the reading is compared against that table during diagnosis. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
