Circuit description and component location
The intake manifold temperature sensor lets the ECM monitor engine intake air temperature, which the ECM uses for the engine protection system and for timing and fueling control. This code trips engine protection on high intake temperature. On the M11 the intake manifold temperature sensor is on the top rear of the intake manifold next to the pressure sensor; on the N14 it is on the side of the manifold just above the ECM.
The engine compartment temperature must not climb above 93.3 C (200 F), the sensor reading is verified against a thermocouple on the service tool, and the fault applies to 98 N14 and 98 M11 calibrations only. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
