Circuit description and component location
The intake manifold temperature sensor lets the ECM monitor engine intake air temperature for the engine protection system and for timing and fueling control. This FMI 3 code points to a high-signal or open condition in the circuit. On the M11 the intake manifold temperature sensor is on the top rear half of the intake manifold; on the N14 it is on the side of the manifold just above the ECM.
The sensor harness connector pins are flushed with electronic contact cleaner and inspected, and sensor resistance is compared against the table from about 30k to 36k ohms at 0 C down to 600 to 675 ohms at 100 C. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
