Applicable truck models
This file applies to Cummins ISB6.7 CM2250 engines and also identifies Injector Metering Rail 1 Pressure coverage for ISC8.3 and ISL9 CM2250 engines. The extract does not name truck makes or chassis models, so application should be matched by engine family, ECM platform, and the displayed DTC information: Fault Code: 449, PID: P157, SPN: 157, FMI: 0, LAMP: Red. Who needs this code 449 DTCs manual
Mechanics, fleet technicians, and workshop owners need this code 449 DTCs manual when INSITE™ electronic service tool reports high fuel rail pressure and a red STOP ENGINE lamp. It is useful for confirming the ECM logic, checking the fuel pump actuator location, and focusing diagnosis on the fuel pressure relief valve and the fuel-drain-to-tank return path.
The diagnostic runs continuously when the engine is running. The ECM sets the code when measured fuel rail pressure has been above the maximum pressure allowed by the fuel pressure relief valve. The listed effect is none or possible engine noise associated with higher injection pressures, especially at idle or light load, with possible reduced engine performance. When active, the ECM illuminates the red STOP ENGINE lamp immediately, and an engine power derate may occur on some engines. Clearing guidance says to start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute to validate the repair. INSITE™ changes the status to INACTIVE after fuel rail pressure returns to normal operating levels and the diagnostic runs and passes; the red STOP ENGINE lamp turns off after the diagnostic passes. The document also notes that “Reset All Faults” in INSITE™ can clear active and inactive faults.
