PACCAR MX P101F — BPV actuator current data valid but too high

PACCAR MX P101F is the diagnostic trouble code documented on this 5 pages extract from the 2013 PACCAR MX Diagnostic Service Manual, published by PACCAR for EPA2013 MX engines. PACCAR prints the fault as “BPV actuator current – Data valid but too high”, in the manual’s standard fault code layout.

Component and system background

The BPV actuator drives a butterfly valve through a lever and spring to create back pressure in the exhaust system and control exhaust gas mass flow. It is a smart actuator on E-CAN with its own diagnostics on supply voltage, electromotor position and current, output shaft position, printed circuit board temperature and its own hardware and software.

Set and reset conditions for PACCAR MX P101F

The code is set when the BPV actuator (L020) detects that the measured actuator current is greater than a temperature dependent value for more than 6 seconds, and it goes inactive as soon as the error is no longer detected. Listed causes are a sticking or blocked BPV valve or mechanism and high bearing friction combined with a high actuator temperature. The manual warns that actuator motor torque is reduced while this fault is active, which can stop the actuator reaching its target position and bring up P101E as well.

Applies to EPA2013 MX engines

The PACCAR MX P101F entry sits in the DTCs / MX Engines (EPA2013) section, so it applies to PACCAR MX engines built to that emissions level. Manufacturer product information is published on the PACCAR corporate website.

Who needs the PACCAR MX P101F fault code page

Technicians reading a live code, foremen writing an estimate and fleet managers deciding whether a truck stays in service all need the manufacturer wording rather than a generic code list.
