Inside the LoneStar No Idle HVAC

  • General and refrigerant precautions
  • No Idle HVAC unit and operation
  • Blower motor, Linear Power Module and controllers
  • Internal HVAC components (condenser, evaporator, compressor)
  • R-134a manifold gauge and refrigerant identification
  • HVAC unit, drain tube and LPM removal

Copyrighted by Navistar in April 2009, the manual opens with general and refrigerant precautions, warning never to install or remove charging equipment with the engine running and never to move the manifold gauge hand valves during diagnostic tests. It then describes the no-idle unit and its operation along with the blower motor, Linear Power Module, discharge and inlet temperature sensors, system and compressor controllers, blend door actuator, flow control valve, control panel and filter. Internal parts include the no-idle condenser and fan, shared evaporator and heater coil, compressor and receiver-drier, while under-cab components cover the plumbing, expansion valve, drain tube and coolant heater. Service procedures require identifying and using only new or recycled R-134a, and remove-and-install steps detail the condenser grille, the HVAC unit, the drain tube and the Linear Power Module, with most fasteners torqued to 20 lbf-in.

Applicable truck models

The 16UZL system uses only new or recycled R-134a refrigerant, a system controller, compressor controller and Linear Power Module, plus a no-idle condenser, receiver-drier and coolant heater. Most fasteners torque to 20 Lbf-in. Verify coverage against your VIN and build sheet on the International Trucks website.

Who needs the LoneStar No Idle HVAC

HVAC technicians use this manual to safely recover and recharge R-134a, replace the no-idle condenser, evaporator and blower components, and service the Linear Power Module on ProStar and LoneStar sleeper cabs.
