With the key on and engine off, pin 1 of the sensor connector is measured to ground; a reading above five volts points to a short to battery back to pin 87 of the MCM 120-pin connector. Voltage is then checked across pins 2 and 4 to decide between replacing the sensor and repairing an open circuit to MCM pin 102.
