Circuit description and component location
The fuel shutoff solenoid lets the ECM control the engine fuel supply, and the ECM can shut the engine down by cutting power to the solenoid. This is a red-lamp supply-circuit fault. The fuel shutoff solenoid is located on top of the fuel pump.
Any extra wire that powers the fuel shutoff valve from a source other than pin 16 of the actuator can damage the ECM internally and must be removed, and the engine block-to-chassis ground wire is checked for a clean, tight connection. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
