Circuit description and component location
The ECM uses the oil pressure sensor to monitor lubricating oil pressure, converting the signal-pin voltage to a pressure value that feeds the engine protection system. This code trips that protection on low oil pressure. On the M11 the oil pressure sensor is on the engine block to the right of the ECM; on the N14 it is on the block near the pan rail on the fuel-pump side of the engine.
A breakout cable (Part Number 3824775) is fitted between the sensor and its connector, the supply voltage is confirmed at 4.75 to 5.25 VDC, and the fault applies to 98 N14 and 98 M11 calibrations only. All checks are made with a Cummins service tool such as Compulink, Echek or a diagnostic tool, and inactive codes are cleared once the repair is confirmed.
Applicable truck models and engines
This document applies to Cummins M11 and N14 CELECT Plus (1995-98) electronic engines and is filed under the CELECT Plus diagnostic trouble codes group, so it suits on-highway and industrial installations that run these engines. For engine specifications and dealer support, see the official Cummins support site at the Cummins engine support portal. The full PDF is part of the oil pressure engine protection fault chapter of the CELECT Plus fault code series held in the DiagTechPro manuals library.
Who needs this Cummins fault code 143 manual
Truck technicians and workshop owners need this document when a engine protection or yellow lamp warns of a oil pressure engine protection problem on M11 or N14 CELECT Plus engines, so they can follow the factory pin checks, resistance measurements and step-by-step decisions instead of guessing at parts.
