This page covers the Detroit fault code SPN 5246 FMI 0, Regulatory Fault Ignored – Final Action (Speed Limit), on DD Platform engines. It explains the final speed-limiting inducement and lists the parent emissions faults.

SPN 5246 FMI 0 table of contents
- Regulatory inducement description
- EPA10 note and SPN 3361 redirect
- List of triggering emissions faults
- DEF and SCR sensor fault references
- Required SCR Efficiency Test
This is a regulatory mandated code that applies the final inducement stage – a vehicle speed limit – because an emissions fault has been active beyond the government-specified interval with no corrective action. The speed limit lifts only after the underlying fault is repaired.
On EPA10 engines, if SPN 5246/FMI 0, 15 or 16 are the only faults present, follow the SPN 3361/FMI 7 procedure (DEF unit unable to clear restriction). Otherwise the guide lists the triggering codes: DEF tank level sensor, SCR inlet and outlet NOx sensors, DEF dosing valve, DEF pressure, air pressure sensor, pressure limiting unit, DEF and SCR temperature sensors, and the DEF pump.
Applicable truck models
This document applies to Detroit DD13, DD15 and DD16 engines on EPA10 and GHG14 aftertreatment. Each parent fault has its own referenced procedure, and a successful SCR Efficiency Test is required after repair. For support, visit Detroit’s official website.
Who needs this SPN 5246 FMI 0 manual
Technicians whose DD Series truck has dropped to a speed-limit inducement use this reference to find and fix the parent DEF or SCR fault and verify the SCR Efficiency Test.
