The Low Capacity Inertia Brake overview explains how Fault Code 45 is detected on the Fuller Advantage Heavy Duty transmission. This TRTS0980 reference describes the LCIB, how it slows Input Shaft speed for smoother engagement, and the deceleration threshold the TECU checks.

Applicable truck models
This applies to Eaton Fuller Advantage Heavy Duty transmissions fitted with an Electronic Clutch Actuator (ECA) and inertia brake (J1587 MID 130 SID 54; J1939 SA 3 SPN 787). Component and service data are published on the Eaton Vehicle Group official website.
Low Capacity Inertia Brake detection logic
As the ECA pulls the Heavy-Duty ECA Clutch release bearing back against the brake, friction plates slow the Input Shaft. FMI 7 sets Active when Input Shaft speed deceleration is less than 1000 RPM/sec for 0.15 seconds with significant current applied to the ECA and the transmission in a non-neutral mode; it clears when deceleration rises above 1000 RPM/sec.
Who needs this Low Capacity Inertia Brake manual
Driveline technicians reading a Fault Code 45 use this overview to weigh the listed causes — oil contamination, excessive release-bearing grease, ECA failure, clutch drag or a failed pilot bearing — before committing to a costly clutch job.
