Fault Code 45 troubleshooting workflow

The technician first runs the Low Capacity Inertia Brake Test in ServiceRanger. If it fails, the LCIB is replaced; if it passes, the Clutch Housing cover is removed to inspect the LCIB for grease contamination or blue heat discolouration and the clutch for signs of failure. Findings decide whether the LCIB, the ECA Clutch or the ECA is replaced.

Who needs this Fault Code 45 troubleshooting manual

Clutch and driveline technicians use this short sheet to separate an inertia-brake failure from a dragging or binding clutch, following the CLSM0200 inspection notes before replacing costly ECA components. The manual also notes that a clutch which drags or binds can cause the LCIB to fail prematurely, and that if the code returns after the repair the technician should contact Eaton for further diagnostics.
