This Eaton ECA speed sensor manual documents Fault Code 95 (or 65) for the Fuller Advantage transmission, describing how the Electronic Clutch Actuator provides a secondary engine speed signal to the TECU and reports an electrical fault. It is part of Eaton publication TRTS0980, Fault Isolation Procedures, and is specific to systems that use a Gen2 ECA.

The sensor is installed in the clutch housing and broadcasts its signal to the TECU through the High Integrity Link contained within the Transmission Harness. The TECU uses this reading to determine engine speed when the J1939 engine speed signal is not available. Fault Code 95 can set with FMI 2 (Data Erratic), FMI 3 (short to power), FMI 4 (short to ground) or FMI 5 (open circuit) when a condition is present for one second or longer.
Applicable truck models
This covers Eaton Fuller Advantage Heavy Duty transmissions with either a push-in clutch-housing sensor or an early thread-in flywheel-housing sensor. Possible causes include a missing engine speed signal, broken clutch cover lugs, contaminated or worn flywheel ring gear teeth, debris build-up, and transmission harness or ECA internal failure. Verify chassis and engine coverage with the manufacturer on the Eaton official website.
Who needs this ECA speed sensor manual
Transmission technicians tracing a lost secondary engine speed reading, or a flashing “F” display without a fallback mode, use this sheet to confirm the fault path before opening the clutch housing. It works alongside the matching Fault Code 95 (or 65) Troubleshooting procedure.
