Choosing the right Cummins Pack matters when you service engines that span on-highway trucks, off-highway machinery, gensets, and marine drives. Cummins runs those platforms on several different electronic control modules (ECMs), so the practical question is rarely “which pack” and almost always “will this software and adapter talk to my ECM?” This guide explains what the Cummins Pack actually is, which engines and ECMs it fits, and how to match it to your application.
One clarification drives everything below: DiagTechPro sells a single Cummins Pack. It is not a family of application-specific bundles. What the Cummins Pack Includes
The pack covers three things: installation and activation of Cummins INSITE (Pro edition), the INCAL calibration files INSITE uses to reprogram and recalibrate ECMs, and the drivers for your datalink adapter. INSITE and INCAL are Cummins products; what DiagTechPro provides is the install and activation work, done remotely so a technician can confirm the software launches and connects before finishing.
Cummins licenses INSITE in two tiers — Lite and Pro (the full tier is branded “Service Plus”). Read-only fault-code and monitoring work is possible at the lower level, but ECM calibration and parameter programming require the Pro tier. INSITE is sold as a 12-month subscription; when it lapses it reverts to a view-only state rather than shutting off completely.
You Also Need an Adapter
INSITE cannot reach any ECM without an RP1210-compliant datalink adapter. The Cummins INLINE 7 (or the smaller INLINE mini) is the reference adapter. If you do not already have one, plan for it before expecting live diagnostics or programming — the software and calibration files on their own will not connect to the engine.

On-Highway Trucks
Common engines: ISX15 / X15, X12, B6.7 (ISB6.7), L9 (ISL9).
On modern EPA emissions engines, INSITE handles the work most road-truck shops need:
- Fault-code diagnostics across EGR, NOx sensors, DPF/SCR, and DEF dosing
- Aftertreatment and VGT turbo-related parameters
- Injector programming and trim codes
- Trip and vehicle parameter adjustments
This is where the Pro tier earns its place: recalibration and parameter changes rely on it, and the INCAL files must match the engine’s exact ECM.
Off-Highway, Construction, and Industrial
Common engines: QSB3.3 / QSB4.5 / QSB6.7, QSL9, QSX15, plus industrial B4.5, B6.7, and L9 ratings.
Electronically controlled QSB, QSL, and QSX engines are supported by INSITE for fault diagnostics, throttle and low-idle behaviour, speed-governor and PTO parameters, and DEF and aftertreatment monitoring on Tier 4 Final / Stage V ratings. The same single pack applies — you are matching calibrations to the ECM, not buying a different product.
Power Generation and G-Drive
Common engines: QSK23 / QSK45 / QSK60, QSX15-G, QSL9-G on CM2880 and related controllers.
An important scope note: INSITE calibrates and diagnoses the engine ECM. Generator-side setup — alternator and AVR configuration, load sharing, and paralleling — is handled by the genset controller (for example Cummins PowerCommand together with the AVR), which is separate equipment from INSITE. Do not expect engine software to set alternator voltage.
Be realistic about older platforms, too. Legacy mechanical and gas gensets such as KTA19-G, KTA38-G, GTA5.9, and GTA8.3 predate the electronic control INSITE was built for, so coverage is limited or unavailable. Confirm the engine has a supported ECM before assuming INSITE will connect.
Marine
Common engines: QSM11-M, QSB6.7-M, QSK19-M, QSK38-M.
For electronically controlled marine ratings, INSITE covers engine fault diagnostics, governor and RPM behaviour, and monitoring of temperatures and related sensors, using marine-specific calibrations. It is the same pack and the same install and activation service; only the calibration set that matches the marine ECM differs.
ECMs: The Real Compatibility Key
Compatibility comes down to the ECM in the engine, not the badge on the truck. Use this as a quick reference:

Note that CM2250 is the EPA 2010–2012 ISX15 module, while the X15 name moved to CM2350 and then to the current CM2450 (EPA 2021, service part 5572391) — the newest on-highway controller. Earlier ISB6.7 engines run CM2150, not CM2350. Matching the Cummins Pack and INCAL files to the exact ECM is what prevents calibration mismatches.
Best Practices When Matching the Pack
- Confirm the exact ECM model number before installing or applying any calibration.
- Use a current INCAL/calibration database so emissions-related features stay correct.
- For programming or recalibration, make sure your INSITE is the Pro (Service Plus) tier — there is no “Fleet” level; the two tiers are Lite and Pro.
- Keep a supported RP1210 adapter (INLINE 7 or INLINE mini) on hand; without it INSITE stays offline.
