Document table of contents
- Record fault codes and update software
- Perform a Load Test on each vehicle battery
- Inspect power and ground supply to the ECA
- Verify battery voltage and polarity at the ECA
- Load Test the power and ground supply
- Inspect clutch, Release Bearing and Cross Shaft
- Verify repair (Step V)
The procedure begins by recording fault data and load testing each vehicle battery per OEM specifications. Battery voltage at the 2-Way ECA Connector Pin 2 to Pin 1, and Pin 2 to ground, must read within 1.2 volts of battery positive. A five-minute harness load test with a sealed-beam headlamp or blower motor verifies the ECA Power Supply Harness carries load with the 40-amp fuse installed, before the sheet moves to clutch and Cross Shaft inspection.
Applicable truck models
This covers Eaton Fuller Advantage Heavy Duty transmissions drawing non-switched power through the ECA Power Supply Harness. Depending on the FMI the steps inspect the Heavy-Duty ECA Clutch, Release Bearing, Clutch Release Yoke and Cross Shaft, referencing the Heavy-Duty Clutch Service Manual CLSM0200. Confirm the applicable build with the manufacturer on the Eaton official website.
