SPN 1761 FMI 2 — DEF Tank Level Sensor Data Erratic or – PDF

SPN 1761 FMI 2 is the Detroit code for a DEF tank level sender circuit whose data is erratic, intermittent or incorrect, and this sheet walks the harness and Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM/ACM2.1) checks that isolate it. Follow it before replacing the sender.

  • Wire-repair versus sender-replacement decision

SPN 1761 FMI 2 troubleshooting steps

Step 1 checks whether SPN 1761/3 and 3031/3 are both present. On the pin-2 branch, voltage against ground indicates a short to power up to Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM2.1) pin 102, and a resistance over 5 ohms between pin 2 and ACM2.1 pin 102 is a wire fault; otherwise the sender is replaced. On the pin-1 branch, more than 3.00 volts is a short to power at ACM2.1 pin 109, 2.0-2.95 volts points to sender replacement, and under 2.5 volts is an open wire to pin 109. Every branch starts by inspecting the sender connector for bent, spread or corroded pins.

Applicable truck models

This procedure covers Detroit DD-series engines — DD13, DD15 and DD16 on the EPA 2007-current platform with SCR aftertreatment — and shares its SPN/FMI structure with related Series 60 DDEC VI applications. Confirm the emissions calibration (EPA07, EPA10 or GHG14) before probing any pin. For engine serial-number and calibration confirmation, use the Detroit Diesel official support site.

Who needs the SPN 1761 FMI 2 manual

Diesel technicians and aftertreatment specialists use this sheet to test the DEF tank temperature/level sender wiring, distinguish a short or open from a failed sender, and identify the exact ACM pins before ordering parts.
