Detroit fault code SPN 2798 FMI 4 is the TruckFaultCodes.com diagnostic sheet for the Injector Needle Control Valve Cylinder 4, 5, 6 Shorted to Ground condition on Detroit DD-series engines. This 4 pages reference lists the fault identification, monitored conditions where shown, and the step-by-step troubleshooting the technician follows in the shop.

SPN 2798 FMI 4 troubleshooting steps
The sheet monitors Injector Needle Control Valve Cylinder 4, 5, 6. Enabling conditions are engine speed at idle or higher. Typical duration is 2 seconds, the dash lamps are MIL and CEL, and the engine reaction is 25 percent derate.
The four-page routine disconnects the rear fuel injector harness 14-pin connector and inspects it for bent or spread pins and water or oil intrusion. Resistance between pin 1 on the rocker cover side and battery ground is measured, then injectors 4, 5 and 6 are disconnected one at a time to isolate the shorted injector, which is replaced. If no injector is at fault the under valve cover harness is replaced, and the MCM 120-pin connector is checked, with a short to ground between pin 19 and the harness repaired as required.
Applicable truck models
This sheet applies to Detroit DD-series diesel engines (the DD13, DD15 and DD16 family) built under the EPA 2007-Current emissions platform, in its EPA10 / GHG14 calibration. Engine and emissions specifications should always be confirmed against the vehicle build; full engine information is published on the Detroit Diesel official site.
Who needs this SPN 2798 FMI 4 manual
Technicians with a 25 percent derate and a rear-bank injector control valve short to ground use this sheet to isolate the failed cylinder from a harness or MCM fault. It is a quick bench reference rather than a full workshop manual, so the named removal steps still route back to Power Service Literature and, where escalation is needed, to the Detroit Customer Support Center.
